We’re excited to welcome back Sora Products to Hope for the Holidays! Sora partners with women in three locations in the Phillippines.
Extreme poverty in the Philippines is estimated at 19.2% of the population, about 18.4 million people.
Although many of the poor in the Philippines live in rural areas, urban poverty has been rapidly increasing in recent years.
Sora product marketing has been established to come alongside women’s cooperatives to offer hope and incentive within poor communities by providing families with a just and righteous income.
By using traditional weaving practices, discarded wrappers from single-serve packets of instant coffee and drink mixes are transformed into beautiful purses and wallets.
What have the women who partner with Sora achieved?
Tay, one of the weavers in Sora’s Manila partner community, was able to put running water in her small apartment this year and have needed dental work done with the sales from her wallets.
Another weaver, Ada, paid for medicine for her husband with her profits.
Edel, in Sora’s Davao City partner community in South Philippines, opened a small sundries store in her community with the proceeds of her wallet sales.
Be sure to check out Sora’s beautiful products on December 7 and 8 at Hope for the Holidays!
